Wake County is Coming Together for Children
In May, the goal to raise $8.5 million to build the WakeMed Children’s Hospital was reached and the community helped to commemorate the achievement by celebrating at a public grand opening event. It is truly a remarkable accomplishment and a testament to the deep compassion and generosity of our friends and neighbors. Our heartfelt thanks to all that helped make the Children’s Hospital a reality.
The new Children’s Hospital is a state-of-the-art facility that enables WakeMed to provide pediatric medical services close to home for families in our community and attract much-needed pediatric specialists to the area.
As Wake County’s population continues to grow, the demand for children’s health care does too. That includes demand for high-level neonatal intensive care. As the only Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care in Wake County, WakeMed is the only local provider that can step in to help the smallest and most critically ill babies and provide much-needed support for family members.
The next phase of the Just For Kids Kampaign includes raising an additional $11.5 million to renovate and expand the Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and expand and enhance pediatric programs and services.
The NICU expansion and renovation goal is to increase capacity by an additional 12 units and create family-friendly rooms, allowing WakeMed to help more critically ill children close to home and provide accommodations that enable parents to stay with their newborn 24 hours a day. Additionally, it will provide customizable environments for each baby, enhancing overall care by being able to adjust conditions to meet individual needs.
Having access locally to specialized care is essential for newborn babies and their parents. It enables faster access to care, eliminates the need for and costs involved in travel, and maintains parents’ access to support from family and friends.
Expansion is critical. But we need your help.
All funds will need to be raised solely through community support before the renovation and expansion can begin.
